On Saturday afternoon, Villarreal defeated Mallorca 3-0 at La Ceramica in La Liga.

In the 12th minute, Franco Russo scored an own goal to give the home team an early lead, which Manu Trigueros doubled in the 34th minute.

Dani Parejo netted a penalty in the 87th minute to make it 3-0 after Russo was sent off the minute before.

As a result of the win, Villarreal has moved above of Barcelona into sixth place in the table. Only a point separates them and fourth-placed Atletico Madrid.

Mallorca, on the other hand, are perilously close to relegation. They are currently in 17th place, two points ahead of Cadiz in 18th.

Before facing league leaders Real Madrid at La Ceramica, Villarreal will travel to Andalusia to face Real Betis.

Mallorca will play Rayo Vallecano in the Copa del Rey quarterfinals before visiting Cadiz in a match that is building up to be a huge one.
